Justin Mockler's Online Portfolio
A collection of my current projects and interests.
A collection of my current projects and interests.
My blog is less of a personal window into my life and more an accessible forum where I can speak my opinions on the topics I find interesting. Because of that, my blog entries will be spaced out over many weeks due to the time I will take on creating the entries. More often than not, most of the discussion will be related to the topics of Computer Science and Writing & Rhetoric. I'll speak about the issues facing users and researchers in my discipline and what can be done to generate more interest in the two fields. I'll try to keep my focus limited on improving the aspects of comprehension and usability, since I find those two elements key to any successful project.
Final Portfolio Changes
Today, I made some final changes to my portfolio before I submit my applications to graduate school. The only major change was to remove the "Downloads" section entirely and replace it with a section to house my personal resume. The "Downloads" page was redundant because all my academic pieces already had download links listed and those were the only items that were included. Although it will be eventually be a useful section, I just don't have my freelance projects ready for public consumption as of now. So, for right now, I have hidden that section and will make it active again once my projects are completed. Other than that, most of the other changes were relatively minor and had to do with some awkward phrasing and clearer explanations on some of the pages. If you see anything that isn't working correctly or is wrong, then please use my contact page to get in touch with me.
Welcome Back!
Throughout this Fall semester at school, I worked on revamping my personal portfolio to be a better representation of myself. On my older portfolio designs, I never alluded to my passion of writing anywhere except the introductory piece. Through WRT495 this semester, I was able to rectify that situation and create a portfolio that is a much better window into my projects and interests. Notably, I've combined the "Welcome" and "About Me" pages into a hybrid that serves both purposes equally well. In the vacated spot I added a dedicated section towards my academic projects that I've completed over the past four years at the University of Rhode Island. Although I wanted to keep my portfolio to only be dedicated towards my outside projects that I've been actively involved in, I felt it was necessary to shine a light onto the academic work I'm most proud of as well. Keeping that in mind, so far there is only a small selection of works under each section on the portfolio. I would have loved to taken a look at many more of previous programs and documents, but there just wasn't the time for it. In the future, I'll continually look back and try and update that page with many more of my older projects. Thank you for checking out my new portfolio design, and please feel free to give me any comments on the design. I've created a contact page that lists the best ways to get in touch with me, which you can get to by using the navigation bar at the top of the page. Thanks!
